Sustainable Fashion Week

Sustainable Fashion Week is entering into its third year, which means three years of bringing awareness to the negative impacts of the fashion industry and highlighting how we can change the way it works, from the inside out.
Systemic change within the fashion industry is becoming increasingly more important, but this will only come through collaboration, education, and innovative ideas, pushed forward by collective groups of people who have the same desired outcome in mind.

Nomads and SFW

SFW is the perfect time to talk about sustainable practises. Our fair trade policy is designed to ensure that we, and all of our suppliers, uphold the 10 Principles of Fair Trade as set out by the World Fair Trade Organization. We are permanently committed to:

1. CREATING OPPORTUNITIES FOR ECONOMICALLY MARGINALISED PRODUCERS

2. TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY

3. FAIR TRADING PRACTICES

4. FAIR PAYMENT

5. ENSURING NO CHILD LABOUR AND FORCED LABOUR

6. NON-DISCRIMINATION, GENDER EQUITY & FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION

7. ENSURING GOOD WORKING CONDITIONS

8. PROVIDING CAPACITY BUILDING

9. PROMOTING FAIR TRADE

10. RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

You can also get involved by heading to any of the SFW hubs: Plymouth, Frome, Bristol, Brighton, London, Cardiff, Manchester, Bradford.

The fashion transparency index (FTI)

Fashion shouldn’t cost the Earth and it shouldn’t cost lives.

At the moment, consumers do not have enough information about where and how their clothes are made and who makes them. People have the right to know that the products they purchase are not contributing to human exploitation and making huge environmental impacts. The fashion transparency index (FTI) has been designed to give insight into exactly this.
Moreover, fashion brands should use the FTI to make improvements to the way they are run, how honest they are with their customers and ultimately, to make key changes to the way clothes are produced.

A Nomads response

We know we aren’t perfect, but we are fully committed to improving the way that we work and the FTI has given us a whole host of new ideas. We’ve identified some key areas where we can be more transparent with you about our processes, so our dedicated team have already begun brainstorming our next steps. And as always, if you have any questions or suggestions – we want to hear them – please leave us a comment below!
With love
The Nomads Team x

Great cause. I love Nomads because of their ethics as well as the clothing. Such beautiful styles but more importantly it is from a good source. I love when you explain about your creditations in detail as it reminds us of why we shop with Nomads xx
