The Better Cotton Initiative helps smallholders, farmers and their communities to grow cotton more sustainably, which in turn improves the working conditions and provides a better standard of living for them and the community they are part of. BCI also help overcome inequalities by providing equal opportunities for men and women in the work environment, as well as by encouraging women empowerment.

BCI is taking a hands-on approach to dealing with the climate crisis, with their climate strategy providing groundwork for a strong response to climate threats within the cotton industry. Additionally BCI are focused on soil health and maintenance. One of the key ways that Better Cotton farmers maintain and strengthen soil structure is by tilling the soil less.
