Since our journey began in 1989, Nomads Clothing has been committed to ethical trade. We enjoy nurturing long-term relationships with our trusted fair-trade suppliers and have carefully developed a supply chain of like-minded people who share our ethos of trading responsibly. What’s more, our clothes are designed and made to last, using carefully sourced natural fibres and environmentally conscious processes.
Wherever we do business, either in the UK or overseas, we are committed to doing our best to deliver a high standard of ethical conduct. For us, it's not enough to simply comply with legal requirements; we are constantly looking for new ways to improve our relationships and we work closely with everyone involved in the Nomads journey.
We have always been pioneers of the ‘Trade, not Aid’ ethos, and we are proud to have developed and nurtured valuable business channels with India. These partnerships have added to the country’s economy whilst establishing the Nomads brand and ultimately providing contemporary, ethically produced clothing to our customers.
We knew from day one that we would have to work hard and be proactive in ensuring that no part of the Nomads supply chain would be involved in any of the negative practices so prevalent in the clothing industry, so we operate a closely monitored fair trade policy.
We visit our suppliers in India regularly throughout the year to ensure our standards are being met and to work on developing new designs with our talented team. From the initial pattern cutting process to the traditional artisan details, we personally know where our products are made and have a good relationship with each supplier.
Here’s a little bit about some of our Fair-trade Partners:
Impulsion
Impulsion is a small factory based in Delhi. Factory owner and manager Irfan has been working in the garment industry for 30 years - after years honing his skills and knowledge working long hours in various garment factories, he set up Impulsion 10 years ago and has gone from strength to strength.
Impulsion specialises in printing and sourcing traditional handloom and textured cotton woven fabrics.
Swati
Swati is a small factory in Noida, recently relocated from Delhi. The factory is owned by Mr. Mahesh, who began working in the garment industry 25 years ago on the production line before gaining the knowledge and funds to open his own premises.
Swati specialises in providing excellent quality natural fibres and printed fabrics.
The Daughters of the Ganges
We have partnered with Daughters of the Ganges to create a range of handcrafted jewellery exclusively for Nomads.
Daughters of the Ganges is a socially conscious brand that works with talented artisans across communities in India, celebrating their traditional crafts whilst supporting them towards building a better future for both themselves and their families.
The Nomads Clothing fair trade policy:
Employees are working of their own free will.
Employees have freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining.
We are providing safe and clean working conditions.
No children under the age of 16 make our products.
Workers are paid a fair wage that is either at or above the national minimum wage.
We pay producers in advance so that they do not go into debt buying materials.
Workers are provided with regular breaks and holidays.
We are helping our factories work towards equality for men and women in both pay and opportunity.
We are providing regular work as established by national law and practice
We are increasing awareness of the need to shop responsibly and to push the multi-nationals into working towards fair trade on a global level.
We do not tolerate harsh or inhumane treatment.
