St Ives
St Ives, Cornwall, is well known for its sandy beaches and quaint village feel. A picturesque fishing harbour and seaside town with a maze of cobblestone streets that take you around the town. There is a wide range of activities you can do in St Ives, from ambling along the beach to surf schools, boat trips, cliff top walking and even exploring some galleries and museums.
History
When the St Ives School of Painting opened in April 1938, it was the fulfilment of a vow made by two young officers who had served in the trenches some twenty years earlier. They vowed that if they survived the horrors of the Western Front they would one day live and paint in St Ives. Both were trained and experienced artists: Borlase Smart studied under Julius Olsson RA at his School of Painting in the Porthmeor Studios in St Ives, and Leonard Fuller trained at The Royal Academy.

The Studio itself has an incredible view of the beach, making it a great place to be inspired. We used this space for our AW22 photoshoot, and thoroughly enjoyed being able to use the studio for our creative vision. The windows at the back now have a beautiful sculpture added by talented artist Abigail Reynolds.
The School
The School now provides a creative and imaginative space for people to learn and develop their skills in all artistic practices. Their mission is to 'enrich people’s lives by nurturing and enabling their creative spirit', and they provide a variation of courses that are taught by different practising artists. In addition to its popular art courses, the School regularly holds various art events, including exhibitions and lectures, many of which occur during the St Ives September Festival. The School is a well-established and highly creative place that continues to promote cohesion and creative influence, not only for the St Ives community, but for all those that join.
